Oxfam has lots of information for school children and free resources for teachers - a whole website of them! Check out Oxfam Education for teaching materials for all ages across the curriculum.

Cool Planet for Children contains photos and stories from around the world, on topics such as Fair Trade and Oxfam's work in different countries. Visit Cool Planet for Children.

In addition to providing teaching resources, Oxfam's Education and Youth Team works through education to empower young people to act for a more just, secure and sustainable world. Where can I find more information for my research?

Unfortunately we receive literally thousands of requests each year from school children and students wishing for assistance, we are not able to assist with specific questions. We are also unable to arrange interviews, answer questionnaires or arrange visits to our projects.

Our website contains an abundance of up to date information about the issues we work on. It includes recent policy papers, press releases, newsletters and also development and campaigning information.

There is also our website which covers the ages 18-25 called Generation Why. To find out how you can get involved in Oxfam's work in ways that will suit you and hopefully be a lot of fun, click here.

In addition, we welcome students and researchers to our library here at Oxfam House, where there are further resources to help with your research.

The Institute of Development Studies at University of Sussex also has a very informative website with free and easy access to a wide range of high quality online resources.

I live abroad, can you send me some information?

It’s great that you would like to get involved and find out more! Unfortunately as we are a charity we have to be careful with our costs, so do not send our educational resources abroad. However, our website for teachers contains hundreds of ideas for the classroom, and support for teachers wanting to do education for global citizenship, that you can access free and online from anywhere in the world.

There may be an Oxfam in the country you live in. Oxfam is made up of a number of organisations based in different countries. Have a look at the Oxfam International website to find out if there is an Oxfam where you are that may be able to help you.

Don’t forget that the Oxfam GB website contains an abundance of up to date information about our work. It includes recent policy papers, press releases, newsletters and also development and campaigning information.

You might also like to take a look at Mapping our World. Mapping our World is a whiteboard teaching product for 8 to 14 year olds.

It explores the relationship between maps and globes, and how different projections influence our perception of the world. It challenges the idea that there is one 'correct' version of the world map.

Can I request a speaker for my school?

Yes! Oxfam School Speakers are available in most locations throughout England. They are fully trained volunteers who work with local schools to raise awareness of the issues surrounding global poverty, Oxfam’s work, and what teachers and pupils can do to make a positive difference in the world. If your pupils are aged between 8 and 18, please feel free to fill out our speaker request form, or alternatively call Supporter Relations on 08700 333 2700 to find out more.

We will be rolling an Oxfam School Speaker Service out across England in 2007.

If the request falls outside of these areas, there are also a number of other possible avenues for fulfilling requests:

Development Education Centres (DECs): Some centres provide an education service for schools and people could contact their nearestDEC to see whether they do provide this service. A list of DECs is available here.

Other charities: This is not suitable if people want specific information about Oxfam but other charities provide speakers on various issues. For example:

I want to fundraise for Oxfam

That’s fantastic! You can find out all you need to know and more about fundraising for Oxfam here.

If you are at school, remember that raising money is only one of a number of actions you can take to help overcome poverty and suffering. Whether you choose to raise money, campaign, raise awareness about issues, make ethical choices about how you spend your money or whatever you choose to do – it all counts. For example, teachers can help by enabling and empowering their pupils to understand the world and to participate in shaping it.
