In Uganda, Oxfam's focus is on supporting those affected by conflict, lobbying for peace, rights of nomadic herders, and livelihoods.

Calling for peace

  • Up to two million people forced from their homes
  • 25,000 children abducted and forced to fight as child soldiers

Conflict has raged between the rebel Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) and the Ugandan government for the last 20 years. Now, for the first time, peace talks are offering signs of a resolution to the conflict.

I have seven children. We left home because of the LRA. They came three times to our home. They took my sons. When the boys were taken, we left home and came to stay in Kitgum.

How Oxfam is helping

We continue to raise awareness of the conflict and lobby for action to be taken to end the fighting. We provide clean water and sanitation to those living in camps and provide counselling to returning child soldiers.
