Honduras

In Honduras, Oxfam's focus is on gender issues, helping people to make a secure living, and supporting indigenous communities.
Equal rights for men and women
Violence against women is widespread in Honduras.
- Over 34,000 complaints of domestic violence have been made to the authorities since 2000
- Three out of ten women that submit a complaint are subsequently killed
How Oxfam is helping
Oxfam lobbies the government for laws to enforce gender equality and raise awareness of the issues surrounding violence against women. We also provide support to victims of domestic violence through counselling and legal advice.

Planting a better future
In Honduras, 53 per cent of people live below the poverty line. And with unemployment running up to 28 per cent, many farmers struggle to grow enough food to feed their families.
How Oxfam is helping
We provide agricultural training to small-scale farmers, ensuring that women are involved in the production process as well as men. Oxfam also lobbies the government for changes in national agricultural policies about land and credit.
