On an equal footing

Two thirds of the world's poor people are women, so in the fight against poverty, Oxfam takes every possible opportunity to promote gender equality. In 2005, we helped restore saltpans destroyed by the Asian tsunami. As a result, local people were able to make a living again. And women were paid the same wages as men for the first time.
