Breaking the cycle of crisis
Summer 2007: Three years of consecutive drought have pushed parts of East Africa into a food crisis. Often, food supplies are simply non-existent or, when times get hard, priced beyond the reach of the poorest people. Thanks to an Oxfam-funded grain bank, villagers in Tanzania now face the future with confidence, knowing everyone will be able to eat all year round.
Prevention is better than cure
Responding to emergencies year on year can be an expensive business. especially if you can stop them happening in the first place. Where possible, Oxfam helps communities facing recurrent disasters to become less vulnerable to future crisis.
