Oxjam Regional Support Executive

Location:

Oxfam House, Oxford.

We are also looking for people from other areas of the country (Cardiff, Leeds and Manchester) to work from home or in a local Oxfam office / shop.

Commitment:

September 2008 – May 2009. 20 hours a week, flexible timings within standard working hours / days.

Department name:

Oxjam is Oxfam’s annual month long festival with a difference. Every year thousands of music events of all shapes and sizes are organised all over the country by people like you, all to raise money for Oxfam.

Everything from buskathons to choral recitals, festivals to open mic nights, mozart to metal, they are all welcome as part of the Oxjam festival.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Leading, managing and motivating 5 – 10 volunteer Oxjam Regional Support Team Managers who’s job it is to support all the local Oxjam events in their surrounding area to raise as much money as possible for Oxfam. A lot of this will be done via email and phone although you will be expected to travel to see the teams too.
  • Making the regional Teams work – Identifying and developing key people who are already in the Oxjam network, to provide a succession of effective Oxjam Regional Support Teams. Sharing experience and promoting initiative and mutual support between the Oxjam support Teams through online channels, face to face meetings and via phone and email.
  • Understanding the Regional Manager’s and their Support team’s needs (both in terms of resources and personal development) through regular one to one phone meetings as well as face to face meetings and email communications, and responding to these needs appropriately.
  • Monitoring, evaluating and reporting back to the Oxjam Team on regional Oxjam activities within your designated teams.
Skills and competences:
  • Experience of leadership roles and of managing and motivating teams to deliver joint objectives.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Working on your own initiative and problem solving: Ability to analyse and negotiate resolutions to complex situations. Able to seek out and use appropriate advice when required.
  • Analytical skills: Ability to analyse data on the performance of your designated regional teams and develop effective and practical responses to this.
  • Interest or experience in organising music events is a plus

Charity Shop Competition Researcher

The voluntary role of Charity Shop Competition Researcher is an interesting post that needs some one who is analytical, methodical and creative in seeking out information.

  • Establish and maintain a database of charity shops across the UK.
  • Research opportunities to add to our shop portfolio in targeted areas.
  • Analyse charity shop competition in the locations of Oxfam shops.
  • Analyse competitors’ location strategies for key competitors (could include retail location profile i.e. secondary, tertiary).
  • Analyse shop segmentation location strategies (e.g. Bookshops)

Media unit assistant

Location:

Responsible for generating press coverage for Oxfam across all media.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Talking to journalists and helping to sell in Oxfam news stories.
  • Drafting media materials such as press releases, Q&As and so on.
  • Supporting on reactive media calls, picture requests and other enquiries.
  • Administrative support to the team.
  • Working on ad hoc projects, e.g. research projects, photo shoots etc. as they come up.

Internet sales coordinator

Commitment:

Key Responsibilities:
  • Working on a project to develop a system for tracking and listing both current and historic online sales.
  • Researching the value of books and musical items on the Internet.
  • Inputting data and managing trades on Amazon, ABE and Ebay.
  • Dealing with customer queries via email.

Training Manual Editor on Participatory Capacity & Vulnerability Analysis

Key Responsibilities:

The Intern will work in close relation with the Capacity Building Coordinator to finalise a Training Package including a hard and electronic version of the Manual & CDs. The main tasks will involve:

  • Designing a Training Manual Layout in-line with OGB minimum requirements;
  • Contributing to the writing of specific sections;
  • Help to incorporate recommendations provided by Advisors;
  • Preparing preliminary pages for the title, contents and preface of the Manual;
  • Editing the existing content and selecting/ creating artworks and illustrations incl. photos;
  • Ensuring that illustrations are correctly captioned and correctly referred to in the text;
  • Ensuring quotes are properly referenced;
  • Correcting spelling mistakes and grammatical errors;
  • Design and produce the CDs that go with the Manual;
  • Research of printing and distribution methods.
Skills and competences:
  • Knowledge of and access to Adobe InDesign, PageMaker, Microsoft Publisher or a similar editing programme;
  • Must show a portfolio of previous applicable graphic design work
  • Ability to incorporate suggestions and to meet deadlines

Communication and Events Co-ordinator

This role will provide communications and events support to the Publishing Team, promoting Oxfam’s new flagship report From Poverty to Power and it’s key messages (For more information visit www.fp2p.org)

The Publishing team publishes books, journals, and online materials for public policy and advocacy and for development policy and practice (particularly gender, education, and disaster relief).  In June it published for Oxfam International, a flagship report From Poverty to Power which is being promoted worldwide between June 2008 and March 2009.  This role will work with Oxfam staff and external stakeholders to ensure launch events are resourced sufficiently.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Co-ordinating a 2 week author tour of academic institutions across the UK (Taking place in October 2008)
  • Assisting with distribution and promotion of From Poverty to Power, and identifying new opportunities for promotion.
  • Some general administration: meetings, mailings, etc
  • The post holder might also be asked to support other departments with communications work around From Poverty to Power where appropriate
Skills and competences:
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple projects to meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills - comfortable liaising with many people at different levels
  • Sound IT skills including Excel, Word, email, and web

Key Responsibilities:

Packaging Oxfam Experiences into products ready for sale, which involves:

  • Working with potential donors to define the Experience, taking it from an idea to a signed off saleable item
  • Designing listings of individual Experiences, for live auction/ silent auction/ online sale
  • Building and maintaining relationships with donors
  • Helping to manage sales events, e.g. Renault F1 online auction, from designing the listings to payment and despatch
  • Managing the Oxfam Experience web pages
Skills and competences:
  • Strong Influencing Skills e.g. through fundraising or sales experience

  • Highly developed interpersonal awareness

  • Organisational skills. Proven writing abilities using Word for designing listings

  • Computer literate in Excel for keeping track of Experiences
