Oxjam Training and Event Assistant
Deputy Shop Manager
Esher, Surrey
Commitment:
3 days per week for 3-6 months

The Esher shop is a busy shop with 25 enthusiastic volunteers who sell high quality clothing, collectables and food. The Deputy Manager will assist the shop manager in day-to-day duties of management of the shop with a particular focus on improving new product and food sales.
Key Responsibilities:
- Improving new product and food sales by: promoting Oxfam’s new product range locally and developing existing sales techniques
- Managing the day-to-day presentation and stocking of goods
- Assisting in the development of shop for target audience
- Assigning tasks to volunteers on rota to maintain continuity and consistency of the shop floor.
- Handling rapid donation sorting
- Operating the till, filing daily financial forms and cashing up at the end of each day.
Skills and competences:
- Commercial awareness and a good eye for shop design
- An interest in fashion with a good understanding of current fashion trends
- Basic numerical and financial skills to help with end-of-day financial duties
- Good communication skills

Oxjam Training and Event Assistant

6 months commitment for 3 days a week.

Oxjam is Oxfam’s festival with a difference. Every year thousands of music events of all shapes and sizes are organised all over the country by people like you, all to raise money for Oxfam.
Everything from buskathons to choral recitals, festivals to open mic nights, mozart to metal, they are all welcome as part of the Oxjam festival.
We have 28 volunteer Oxjam Regional Support Team’s whose purpose is to support Oxjam event organisers in their regions to raise as much money as possible from their Oxjam events.
We are looking for someone who can take a lead in elements of training and supporting these teams via distance and face-to-face.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing training and support via distance to Oxjam Regional Support Officers. Within the 28 volunteer Oxjam Regional Teams each team has a support Officer, whose role is to provide one to one direct support to event organisers. Your role will be to 1) Resarch and understand the support that they require 2) Develop strategies,systems or materials to meet these requirements 3) Monitor and Evaluate their effectiveness and prepare suggestions for how they could be improved next year.
- Organsing the content and logistics for one 3 day residential training workshop for 28 volunteer Oxjam Regional Managers (to take place on the 9th – 11th Jan 2008) and one 3 day residential review / feedback session for the Regional Managers in April 2009.
- Working with the Training and Support Executive, the Regional Managers and Oxfam’s learning and development team to design exciting, interactive and suitable content for the training session.
- Organising all event logistics including venue and accommodation for delegates, catering and resources. Also organising post event entertainment, booking and briefing in external and internal facilitators, and reviewing the impact of the training session.
- Implementing elements of the Oxjam Team’s supporter research / insight plans including gathering feedback at training events and preparing a post event survey for Oxjam event organisers and Regional Support Teams.
Skills and competences:
- Great project management skills: ability to plan, monitor and evaluate tasks; ability to manage your own time and workload
- Analytical skills: ability to analyse data from a wide range of varied sources and pick out and summarise key points.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Negotiation skills and ability to build and maintain business relationships
- Experience in facilitating and or organising training events is a big plus!

Learning & Development Communications Assistant

Commitment:
2 or 3 days a week for 6 months (with possibility to extend).

The Learning & Development Team is placed within the Corporate Human Resources Department. The team are responsible for Learning and Development initiatives that have an organisation-wide reach. They work in an advisory capacity with regional HR and other specialist/functional teams and act as a “broker” – helping teams share ideas about learning and personal and organisational development throughout Oxfam.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contribute to finding innovative ways to promote and market L&D initiatives via the intranet and other communication routes.
- Collate and produce content for a regular newsletter (to involve interviewing staff, gathering and writing materials, and formatting).
- Support the team in the creation of new learning resources, and ensuring existing materials are in line with the Oxfam brand.
- Assist with the evaluation of international courses and coaching relationships.
- Examine team systems, databases and intranet site and review for ease-of-use. (On occasion other work to support the team may be necessary).
Skills and competences:
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Interest in Learning & Development and Oxfam.
- IT skills: Good knowledge of PowerPoint, Word and Excel.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team in order to meet deadlines.
