Apply to be a festival volunteer

Become an Oxfam steward or campaigner

To be an Oxfam steward or campaigner, we need you to pay a £165 refundable deposit and to work 3 shifts during each festival. You must be 18 or over and able to provide a reliable reference. You will be camping in a separate area with showers and toilets, and you will receive a free meal ticket for each shift you work. You will need to bring your OWN TENT!

To find out more, check out the frequently asked questions (FAQs), on the website, and the stewarding forum.

To complete this application form to volunteer at a festival in 2008 you will need the following.

  • A valid debit or credit card
This is to pay for your deposit, which this year is £165.  Unfortunately we are unable to accept payment by cheque or American Express. Your deposit can only be refunded onto the same credit/debit card as you used to pay the deposit. So ensure that the account you use will still be active at the end of your last festival. Contact stewards@oxfam.org.uk for stewards enquiries or festivalcampaigners@oxfam.org.uk for campaigners enquires, if the account is closed for any reason.
  • Your diary
    a) Training: To decide which Health and Safety Training course to book on to. (You will need to complete this if you have not been trained by us in the last four years.)
    b) Festivals: To ensure you are available for the whole time we are at each festival. For example, to steward at Glastonbury you must arrive on Tuesday 24th June and be on site until late on Sunday 29th June.
  • Details of your transport to the festival
We need to know how you are coming to the festival, so we know how many car passes to order from the festival and how many buses to provide, (for some festivals only).
  • A photo
You’ll need to upload an up-to-date photo of yourself for your application. The photo should be a JPEG (.jpg) file type, less than 50kb in file size and no larger than 3.5 x 4.5 cm.
  • Shift partners' details
We try our hardest to ensure that you have the same shift times as your friends. But we need to know who they are – please provide details of their full name and date of birth so we can match your shifts.
  • Referee’s details
If you have worked at less than 2 festivals as an Oxfam steward or campaigner, you will be asked to provide contact details of a referee, including their telephone number and email address.
  • Emergency contact & Doctor’s details
In the unlikely event that you have a medical emergency we may be asked to provide your doctor’s name and contact details. These will only ever be passed on to medical personnel.
  • For priority applications only:
    Steward ID or Campaigner ID:
The ID number that you received in your priority application email or letter.

Children's tickets for Glastonbury

The following is the workers children's policy for Glastonbury festival:

Children aged 12 and under on June 25 2008 when they arrive at the Festival, and when accompanied by a working adult, are admitted free and do not need a ticket nor do they need to register with the Festival.

Workers' children aged 13, 14 and 15 will have to register with the festival this year.

  • Child tickets will be the same price as adult tickets.
  • Child tickets can be bought by the responsible adult accompanying the child; who may have a different surname from that adult. So, for example, a parent can buy child tickets for one of their offspring and a friend.
  • Child tickets will carry the photograph of the registered child and will be overprinted with the word "child".
