In 1990, Taylors of Harrogate made a decision to plant a million trees, and turned to a number of organisations, including Oxfam, to help them in this aim.

Over the years, their support for Oxfam has helped many communities, including projects in countries such as Ethiopia, India, Honduras and Indonesia. These projects not only plant trees to help combat soil erosion and to provide livelihoods, they also support agriculture, business skills, health and other community issues.

Through donations of over £1 million to Oxfam, Taylors have achieved their planting objective three times over, planting three million trees. A special promotion on their boxes of Yorkshire Tea, to plant even more trees with Oxfam, celebrated this landmark. Each token received by Taylors from one of these special tea boxes, planted a tree in north-west India as part of Oxfam's River Basin Programme. Taylors also produced a TV ad that includes Oxfam and Trees for Life, their mechanism for donating money.

“Working with Oxfam for over 15 years has been a fantastic way for us to support and give back to the communities we rely on for tea leaves and coffee beans. It has taken away the worry of where and how our donations will be used, as we are safe in the knowledge that every single penny is helping the communities that Oxfam works with.”
