What is the Activist Community Support Scheme?

The Activist Community Support Scheme is a new model for recruiting, training and supporting activists in the UK.

The scheme aims to create communities of activists who are trained and supported locally, rather than through the central Oxfam office. It aims to "let go" and encourage activists to be more creative in their approach to campaigning at a local level, on Oxfam issues.

How will the scheme work?

The Activism Team are currently in the process of recruiting and training a number of volunteers: Area Coordinators and Community Trainers; who will then have the responsibility of recruiting and supporting activists within their own communities.

Having these roles in place will allow the Activism Team to give focused support to a few individuals and cascade that support, through them, to a much larger numbers of activists than is currently possible.

Where is the scheme operating?

The scheme is currently being piloted in two areas, Leeds and Birmingham, and will be rolled out to other areas later in the year.

How can I get involved?

We are not currently recruiting for Area Coordinators or Community Trainers. Please check back soon or for further information email Suzanne Saunter on ssaunter@oxfam.org.uk or call the Activism Team on 01865 473154.
