Take action: Call on Gordon Brown to get more peacekeepers for DRC

More peacekeeping troops are urgently needed to protect civilians who are caught in the crossfire of violent clashes in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Send a message to Prime Minister Gordon Brown, and urge the UK Government helps to get more peacekeepers into DRC now.

Dear Prime Minister

I urge you to act decisively to get more peacekeeping troops to protect the people in Eastern Congo.

Currently a humanitarian catastrophe is unfolding before our eyes. Hundreds of thousands of people have been forced from their homes by violent clashes. The situation is deteriorating every day. Rape of women and girls is an everyday occurrence.

The UN peacekeeping operation is not big enough to cope. It will take months for extra troops to arrive.

The EU promised that troops would be available in conflicts like this. The UK has the responsibility to ensure this promise is met. Swift deployment could save thousands of lives.

The UK Government has said we must never stand by in the face of war crimes. Now is the time to uphold this commitment to protect civilians and prevent further killings.

Over the past five years some five million people have died in the DRC. The people in eastern DRC cannot wait any longer.

Sincerely
