Welly ache

mud and toilets - the perennial glasto challenges
I'm sitting on a sofa! My feet are clean! 24 hours ago (as Clare's feet, above, illustrate) neither of these things seemed possible.

Yesterday was *awesome*. I was campaigning on the last shift, from six till ten -- white bands and MPH T-shirts were flying off the stall, the sun was out, and we mud-surfed with our petition clipboards as Brian Wilson sang Surfin' USA and Bobby Gillespie moved us on up.

We had to force people out of the tent so we could finally close up, jumping around to Basement Jaxx while counting up the T-shirt money. What a night. What a crowd. What a great big lovely muddy weekend all round...

It's all over now...

Well, the tents are coming down, the mud scraped from the wellies and our intrepid campaigners are making their way home from an epic Glastonbury 2005. This year had it all - blistering heat, flash floods, electrical storms, beautiful tunes, a great atmosphere and, of course, that brilliant Make Poverty History moment on Saturday afternoon. I'm sure our Oxfam people are going home tired but incredibly happy. Stay tuned - we'll have more pics and reaction up on this site over the next few days...

Backstage - Athlete's words!

Athlete's Joel: "Everytime I do a festival I get overwhelmed, but this is great - it was a really nice moment, and us playing "Wires" straight afterwards, it wasn't intended but it occurred to me onstage that it was really poignant as it's so personal to me - a song about just choosing to believe in something! I had a tear in my eye! It was a poignant moment - I'll be big smiles all the rest of the weekend now."

Backstage: The Big Moment

Yesterday was the exciting Make Poverty History Big Moment at Glasto. Taking place simultaneously across the whole site, celebs such as Bob Gelof, Baaba Maal, Athlete and G-Love called on everyone to hold hands in the air to show their support for the campaign. Wow! If the G8 leaders don't listen to 150,000 muddy music lovers, then who would they listen to?!

One of your devoted VIP campaigners ended up in the wings of the Other Stage, cheering Baaba Maal on as he made his fantastic speech....definitely a moment to remember. Athlete and Baaba Maal stood shoulder to shouler on stage, and Athlete then played the stunning 'Wires' to finish the whole shebang off. Amazing.

Thanks to everyone who took part in the Big Moment...we WILL Make Poverty History!!

Your very tired and smelly VIPintdrinking campaigners! :-)

Backstage - MPH on Avid Merrion's wrist!

We snapped stars a plenty with the MPH white bands on -they were everywhere, despite the protests of the idiosyncratic Avid Merrion who complains "they're not available enough - can't get them in woolworths with your pick 'n' mix!"

Backstage - Razorlight show some love for MPH

The Razorlight family, including Andy, Carl and Bjorn were relaxing backstage and in between lotsof beer drinking and interviews with Russian radio stations they had a wee chat with Oxfam's roving reporters!

We've really been pushing Make Poverty History, we're talking about it everywhere - even dedicating songs to it! At the G8 we'd like to see Debt dropped, trade improved and peace and prosperity for everyone!"

Mud, mud glorious mud!

Well, the rain has well and truly come down at Glasto - delaying the 1030 am start. As some chap on the BBC website says: "There are rivers of water running through the farm down the hill. At points, the water is knee-deep." And our campaigners on the ground said the Make Poverty History tent at the Pyramid stage was ankle-deep in water at one stage - but sign ups were still good! Let's hope the rain clears up soon!

Just a quickie - if reading this Blog has got you more interested in Make Poverty History, and you want to go to the Make Poverty History G8 rally in Edinburgh - have a look on this page. There are trains being laid on, and there's a massive campsite for 15,000 people laid on by the council...

MPH pants are here!

Our campaigning neighbours WaterAid have just taken delivery of some fabulous Make Poverty History pants (as modelled by our stunning Oxfam campaigners). They're a fiver and they've been flying off their stall. I've got mine, and I have to say I'm quite glad, because I've just tried the Shee-Pee female urinals and it wasn't what you might call an unqualified success...

Backstage at Glasto: Prologue!

This is the first of many (hopefully!) news flashes from backstage at Glastonbury! We'll be bringing you all of the news and gossip about VIP antics backstage. The festival hasn't officially started yet, but today the Make Poverty History press conference was held in Lulu's cafe in the VIP area. Michael Eavis said some fantastic words about why Glasto is so supportive of the campaign, and Emily was spotted in the background cheering him on. The first celebrity sighting of the festival was of Billy Bragg - yay! He's completely on board for Make Poverty History...look out for him supporting the campaign around the G8.

Apart from celeb spotting we have been taking full advantage of the toilets...ridiculous to get so excited over toilets, but they FLUSH! Yes, really!

We're knackered from our first day exploits so off to relax with some pear cider in Lost Vagueness(?!)...back again soon for some more vague blog-ness!

From your VIP campaigners (that's Vague, Indie-rock'n'roll, and Pint-drinking)

Here comes the sun...

Well, we're now nearly at the end of the first campaigning shift of the day, and my, what a busy one it's been already! The sheer enthusiasm of the glasto-punters is incredible - everyone's in full festival swing, signing up to the petition in their droves, and it's hot, hot, hot.

As a special glasto-service to the overheating throngs of people, we're offering some cool Make Poverty History tattoos sponged on with fresh ice cold water - unsurprisingly, they're turning out to be quite a hit...

Off to soak up some rays on the green fields...more later!

Scorchio!

It's hot work this campaigning business but the crowds are amazing - we were busy as soon as we set up this morning. The Control Arms tent looks *amazing* and the shop next door is mobbed, boys buying dresses and girls in fake fur... can't have too much fake fur, right?! jo

The sun has got his (Make Poverty History) hat on

Helloooo Glastonbury!!! Leapt out of our tents bright and early this morning to the sun shining, the sound of the birds singing...and the portaloos flushing. Aah, Glastonbury.Off to start our first bit of campaigning in the Make Poverty History tent, situated in prime glasto position right beside the Pyramid stage in full view of, ooh, The White Stripes, Coldplay, Basement Jaxx...and one or two others into the bargain. All the music kicks off tomorrow but for today we're out and about to get as many lovely glasto-punters as possible signing up to help us Make Poverty History. Watch this space!

Build up

It's finally dark and - better - it's finally cool. The gang's all here, there's a massive harvest moon hanging in the sky, and there are Mexican waves of cheers echoing round the farm. Now if only I didn't have to get up at 7 tomorrow... jo

Get interactive at Glasto...

If you're lucky enough to be going to Glasto, you might want to check out this thing we've just spotted on the Virtual Festivals website. They've got a Glastonbury Interactive tent, in the new Dance Village area of the site, where you can contribute to their festival coverage with photos and messages and stuff. There will also be "sofa session discussions and live performances by some of the most talented acts". Sounds pretty cool...

We're on our way to Glasto!

We're on our way to Glasto! La la la oooh! La la la oooh! OK, excuse our excitement, but we can't wait for this year's Glastonbury festival to get started - though for many it already has. Tuesday marks the day when all our lovely Oxfam stewards (see pic) arrive on site, and lots of our campaigners and people working in the Oxfam shop will be making their way down too. And yesterday, the shiny happy people from the Control Arms team loaded up their big truck and made their way to the sunny fields and hills of Worthy Farm. They looked excited, and who can blame 'em - if this weather holds, it's going to be an absolute corker. We're on our way to Glasto!

Oh, and one other thing - we've got a link to our Glastonbury coverage on the rather lovely Virtual Festivals website. Check it out here >>
