| Lesson plan: A special friend
From the Foundation Stage classroom activities
on Global Citizenship themes online resource
Age group: 3 - 5
Aims:
For pupils to have an awareness of others in relation to themselves,
appreciate that their actions have consequences, and show concern
for others in their immediate circle
What to do:
You will need:
-
a book that illustrates friendship, such as
Aldo by John Burningham;
-
paper, glue, scissors and materials for collage.
Read the book with the pupils and then talk about what they do
when they are feeling sad or lonely and how class members can help
each other at these times. Talk about what makes a friend, what
friends do for each other and how to be friendly to new children
in the class. Think about particular words to describe friends,
about times when we fall out with friends and how to become friends
again. Discuss times when pupils like being or want to be on their
own. As an extension, pupils could to make collages of themselves
with their 'special friend', or make a picture for someone special
to them.
Planned outcome:
That pupils understand the value of friendship.
