CPD activity: Choosing a Locality pack
From the Teaching about Distant Localities online
resource
Aim:
To help participants choose appropriate packs to support their study
of a locality in the South
What to do:
You will need:
Display the Locality Checklist chart (or hand out the photocopies)
and ask the teachers to consider its content. In selecting a locality,
they will need to make sure they have resources that cover these
features, because this will enable pupils to answer their Enquiry
questions.
Divide the teachers into groups of two and give each group a locality
pack and a copy of the assessment form. Ask them to fill in the
form and then report back to the other participants, who may wish
to annotate their resources lists.
Discussion points:
In a group discussion the following points may be raised. Are there
any additional points which participants feel are important when
assessing locality packs? Are there any packs which are particularly
strong? Why? What other sources of information are available apart
from locality packs? This might include local people from the area,
travel agents, cultural groups or embassies etc.
